How do I upload files or folders directly to OneDrive?
There are multiple ways to upload files or folders directly to OneDrive. You can utilize the web, or upload directly from your Windows computer or your Mac computer.
On the Web
- Open a recommended browser, such as Google Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.
- Navigate to inside.ewu.edu
- Click on the link for Cloud Storage
- Open OneDrive
- You may be prompted to sign in. If you are, make sure to follow the new sign in experience guidelines.
- Click + Add New
- Select Files upload to upload individual files or Folder upload to upload entire folders to OneDrive.
- Select the file or folder that you want to upload in the window and click Upload.
In the example below, you can see that we've navigated to Documents and selected the How To folder.
- You may see a prompt in your browser, confirming that you wish to upload the contents of the select folder to the OneDrive site. If you do, select Upload.
If you’re using the latest version of Edge, Chrome, or Firefox, you can drag files directly from your computer to the OneDrive page on your browser.
OneDrive will indicate when your files or folder has completed uploading.
If you upload a file that matches the name of an existing file, OneDrive will show an error and ask whether you want to replace the original file with the new file or keep both files by automatically adding a number to the end of the filename of the new version.
If you want to upload your files to a Shared Library, select the appropriate Shared option in left menu.

On your Windows Computer
- On a Windows Computer, OneDrive should already be installed (with some exceptions, like in Virtual Labs). To launch OneDrive, either open your Start Menu and search for OneDrive or look to your taskbar and click on this OneDrive Icon: , then select Open Folder.

If OneDrive does not appear to be installed see this article.
- A file explorer window will open, with your OneDrive - Eastern Washington University directory visible.
- Click and drag files or folders that you wish to upload to OneDrive directly into the Directory.
- Blue circular arrows beside your files mean that they're syncing to the cloud.
- When they're done syncing, green check marks are displayed
On your Mac
- On a Mac Computer, OneDrive should already be installed (with some exceptions, like in Virtual Labs). If it's not, see this article.
- To launch OneDrive, either Finder and search for OneDrive or look to your taskbar and click on this OneDrive Icon, and click Open Folder.
- A new finder window will open, with your OneDrive directory visible.
- Click and drag files or folders that you wish to upload to OneDrive directly into the Directory.
