A virtual private network (VPN) extends the campus network across the Internet, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the campus network. Applications running on a computing device, e.g., a laptop, desktop, smartphone, across a VPN may therefore benefit from the functionality, security, and management of the campus network. (Wikipedia)
You do not need to connect to the VPN to access online resources like InsideEWU, EagleNET, Office 365, Google Drive, Virtual Lab, etc. Connecting to the VPN is only necessary if you want to connect to a local resource like NetStorage (i.e. department or personal drives).
To connect to the EWU VPN you must first download the Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN client. To download the client go to https://vpn.ewu.edu. Authenticate using your EWU NetID and password.
Common Installation Problem
When attempting to start the client, if you receive an error message stating “The program can’t start because mfc120u.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem,” you can resolve the error by installing the Visual C++ runtime files which are downloadable in the following link:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784
A GlobalProtect login window will appear. Log in using your NetID and Password.
Click Disconnect and you will be logged off from the EWU VPN.
