A virtual private network (VPN) extends the campus network across the Internet, and enables users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the campus network. Applications running on a computing device, e.g., a laptop, desktop, smartphone, across a VPN may therefore benefit from the functionality, security, and management of the campus  network. 1. Download the client go to https://vpn.ewu.edu. Authenticate using your EWU NetID and password.

2. Download the appropriate GlobalProtect client based on what operating system you are using.

3. Launch the GlobalProtect installer and follow the prompts.




Common Installation Problem

When attempting to start the client, if you receive an error message stating “The program can’t start because mfc120u.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem,” you can resolve the error by installing the Visual C++ runtime files which are downloadable in the following link:


** When the installation finishes you can close the window. If you are running Windows a new GlobalProtect client window should open in the lower right corner above the taskbar. If you are running Mac it should appear in the upper right hand corner.

If the client window doesn't automatically appear click on the the GlobalProtect icon on the taskbar to open the client window.

4. The first time the client is launched it will ask for the portal address that you will connect too. Enter vpn.ewu.edu in the
box and click Connect.

5. A GlobalProtect login window will appear. Log in using your NetID and Password.

6. To disconnect from VPN simply click the GlobalProtect icon on the taskbar.

Click Disconnect and you will be logged off from the EWU VPN.

When reconnecting in the future you will no longer be required to enter the portal address. All you have to do is
click on the GlobalProtect Icon on the taskbar and click Connect.
