What is Copilot Chat?

Copilot Chat is limited version of Microsoft Copilot that allows you to ask questions, submit tasks, and receive AI-generated responses.

While it is similar to the paid version of Microsoft Copilot, there are important differences:

Copilot Chat does not access your emails, calendar, or documents.
It only uses the content you enter into the chat feature, and public information used to train the AI engine is current as of October 2023.
It is not directly available in individual applications like Outlook, Excel, or Word.
Web search is turned off by default.

Important guidance on data use

Enterprise Data Protection: Prompts and responses are protected by Enterprise Data Protection (EDP), the same contractual terms that govern our other Microsoft 365 services like Outlook and OneDrive.
Data encryption and privacy: Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit and not used to train AI models.
Existing controls apply: State data retention requirements apply to your conversations with Copilot Chat.
