How do I use plus addressing in email?
Plus addressing allows you to create a dynamic alias for your email account. With plus addresses, you can:
- create an unlimited number of custom temporary email addresses/disposable email addresses.
- use plus addresses as unique addresses for services, sign-up forms, contact forms, etc.
- specify an action for messages sent to a particular plus address using an inbox rule, such as moving the messages to a specific folder.
- help identify when a website sold your email address to a spammer. You can use the inbox rule to identify mails sent to that plus address and block them.
- use the address on a public facing website to help filter responses or filter spam.
Creating a plus address is easy. Simply add + after your username, but before the @ symbol. For example, if your email address is swoop@ewu.edu, you can instantly create an address like swoop+eagle@ewu.edu or swoop+goeags@ewu.edu
Addresses created with the plus sign will be automatically routed to your regular email account.
Plus addresses can only be used to receive email, you cannot send email with a plus address (your regular email address is always used for sending). You can use a plus address as a "reply to" address.
