How do I securely share a file or folder with Filedrop?
IMPORTANT: Filedrop is not a place to store personal files. This application is to only be used for uploading and exchanging files. Each User’s maximum storage is 1GB.
Follow these instructions if you wish to send an individual a link for them to upload files/folders to your “File Shares” folder. This process is best for working with individuals external to EWU
- Navigate to filedrop.ewu.edu
-
Login with your SSO credentials. Ensure to use your full e-mail address when entering the username.
-
You will now select a folder that you want the files to be deposited into. In this example, we'll use the default "File Shares" folder, but you're able to create new folders by clicking on the +New link at the top.

-
Select the 3 dots to the right of the file name to open the Folder Settings.

-
A sub-menu will open. Select Details.

-
A menu pane will slide in from the right. You need to set the type of link that you will be sending the intended recipient. The default will be View Only. Change this to File Request.

-
Select the Copy icon next to the Share Link section to copy the link to your computers clipboard. Paste this link into correspondence with the user that you are requesting the file from.

- If you wish to add password protection to this link, or any other number of attributes, click on the three dots next to the Copy icon and select Customize link.

- When the user receives the link that you send them, their browser will open up to a webpage that prompts them to either click to upload a file, or click and drag a file onto the browser window.

-
Once the recipient has uploaded the file, you can check your Filedrop home directory, and you will see the newly uploaded file in your “Shares” folder.

- Lastly, if you wish to unshare a link, click on the three dots next to the destination folder (in our example, the File Shares folder), and under External shares, click on the three dots, then Unshare.
